Problem: The Swedish designer of this precision instrument, endorsed by the medical community in the fight against Lyme disease, needed a reliable U.S. manufacturer to take this instrument from patient approval to high-volume production., which included meeting the critical force requirements of its jaw and spring configuration to ensure safe removal of parasites. (Too much pressure causes the tick to discharge potentially disease-laden fluids. Too little pressure, and the tick is not cleanly removed.)
Solution: We developed a manufacturing process that reconfigured the spring-loaded design and added a spot weld to stabilize the part's critical gripping specifications (even after the impact of repeated drop tests). Tip points were also kept burr-free and precisely aligned to ensure predetermined pressures.
