SPRING ARM

Application: Electronics

Problem: Prototype models of this part (for a read/write head of a computer disk drive assembly) used an electronic beam-welded assembly. As conceived by the customer's design team, this part called for a 5-piece assembly that included welding four seams.

Solution: We recommended coining .008 stainless steel to a .0015" thickness with a +/- tolerance of .0001".

This coining eliminated assembling and welding five parts.

The result was a precision component that could be flawlessly mass produced.
