LOCK FRAME
Application: Combination Lock
Problem: Originally designed and produced as a two-piece brazed assembly, this piece was labor-intensive, expensive and prone to a high reject rate. Its two-piece design also called for two additional operations: wire brushing to clean the brazed area, and machining a counterbored hole.
Solution: We worked with the customer to redesign the part so that a progressive die could complete the entire part in a single stamping operation.
The part now comes off the stamping press consistently aligned, ready for assembly, and at a significantly reduced cost.
This application won the prestigious Higgins Design Award for Excellence in demonstrating the highest order of tooling ingenuity.
